How to keep going when everything is falling apart

Sometimes I feel like I am drowning in an endless sea of despair. An endless sea so eternal that even if I gave up, I still wouldn’t reach the bottom. It’s like I’m constantly struggling to hold my head up above the water… so much water. My arms are tired. I’m exhausted. I desperately need help.

Then the more I look around all I see is more water. Where is my boat? Where is the land? Where is my help? Where is my hope? How did my well thought plan leave me here? Drowning... I don’t understand. Everything is falling apart! What am I supposed to do?

Ever felt like this?

Here are 3 things to remember when everything around you is falling apart:

The last thing you may want to do is keep going when everything around you is falling apart. The stress and overwhelm alone can make you want to throw in the towel. But, where is that going to leave you? Think about it. When we give up, we give ourselves a ZERO percent chance at success. That means we will never go any further than where we are today. It’s an easy cop out, but…

Is that really how you want to live your life?

No! You are here to thrive. You are here to have different experiences and stretch yourself to the limit. That’s how you learn and grow as an individual. Do you really want to be in the same place 10 years from now? Why… because you are too afraid to live beyond your comfort zone? The fact is that life is tough sometimes, but so are you. You can give up when the going gets tough or you can regroup, rearrange and remain on your path.

Who knows? Your experience could be the testimony, or the story, that will help motivate someone else.

When everything around you is falling apart, it is very easy to lose perspective. We often get so caught up in the moment of chaos, that we forget to look at the bigger picture. For instance, I want you to look back on a difficult time in your life. Did it seem like the end of the world? Did you feel like there was no way to make it through? Now fast forward to today. Did you survive? Was it really the end of the world?

No, it just seemed that way at the time…

It is extremely important to take a step back when dealing with life’s challenges. If we can look at our situation from a different perspective, we can gain a clearer understanding. The last thing we want to do is become overwhelmed with our current circumstances. We have to control the situation and not allow the situation to control us. Remember, you create your life. So take control by keeping things in perspective.

Once you’ve gained perspective, you have to learn to trust the process. For those of us who are spiritual, we would call this having faith. Trusting the process is a sure way to eliminate stress, worry and fear. Once these elements are removed you will be able to continue your journey in peace… a peace that surpasses all understanding.

Trusting the process for me simply means: I do not have to understand the situation. With that, I don’t have to understand the details or “why” things happen. I don’t even have to know “how” I’m going to succeed. In fact, the only thing I have to know is that everything is going to be ok. Whatever I am going through is for my greatest good and I will be protected along the way. Isn’t that comforting?

I’m eager to know what you all think about these tips! Did you find them helpful? Were you able to apply them to a difficult situation in your own life? How did it work out for you? Also, as always I encourage you to share your thoughts and opinions below. Sharing your experiences and advice can really help someone else. By simply, letting someone know that they are not alone can be game changing in itself. Try it. Pay it forward!
